GoldenEye also marks the first appearance of Pierce Brosnan in the series as Bond. Due to legal issues, the series had a hiatus of six years, during which time Timothy Dalton decided to pass on reappearing in the role.

Some people protested the choice of Brosnan due to his Irish background, which was strange because no one object to Bond being played by a Scot (Connery), an Aussie (Lazenby) or a Welshman (Dalton).
